洞房花烛之夜，各地都有闹洞房的习俗，晋南谓之“讨媳妇”。俗话说：“三日之内无大小”，意即在新婚三天之内，平辈、长辈、晚辈都可不拘礼节，前来凑热闹。不过，闹洞房以同辈份的人最多，长辈较少。结婚是人生大事，一定要“皆大欢喜”，参与闹洞房的亲友，即使有过分之处，也要忍耐，热情款待。例如，有的地方，让新郎新娘说出羞于出口的话，如新郎说：“脚蹬炕沿吃馄饨，先问亲人和谁亲。”女的必须对答：“呀呀依，憨呆子，不和你亲和谁亲？”有的是让新郎新娘做一些亲热的动作。闹房结束，淘气的青年还要“听洞房”，窃听新郎新娘的秘密，做为来日逗趣的笑料。如果没人听房，主家就有意在窗台下放把扫帚避邪。
新娘回门，一般为婚后第三天，新郎也同去岳家认亲。回门时有的仍坐轿子，有的改为骑马。进娘家门时，还要跳火避邪
