晚幼红细胞脱核后到完全成熟的红细胞之间的过渡型细胞。由于其胞浆中尚残存核糖体等碱性物质，因而用煌焦油蓝染液进行活体染色后，胞浆可见有蓝绿色网状结构，故名网织红细胞。据其发育阶段可分0、Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、Ⅳ五型。正常情况下，血循环中可有少量网织红细胞。其正常值成人为0.5%～1.5%，平均为1%；新生儿为3%～6%，3个月后其数值大体与成人接近。网织红细胞的绝对值等于红细胞数与网织红细胞百分率的乘积。正常人每立方毫米血液内网织红细胞的绝对值为24000～84000。网织红细胞可用以判断骨髓的增生情况和疗效观察指标，所以对贫血的诊断、鉴别诊断、疗效观察及预后的判断有重要的参考价值。
