两侧视神经交叉的地方,位于颅中凹蝶鞍的前上方。来自两眼视网膜内(鼻)侧半部的纤维交叉,而来自两眼视网膜外(颞)侧半部的纤维不交叉。因此,视交叉后面的视束中,含有来自两眼视网膜同向半部的纤维,例如右侧视束由两眼视网膜右侧半部(右眼颞侧和左眼鼻侧)的纤维所组成。
