【性状】
本品呈卵圆形，长3～7cm，直径2～4cm 。表面黄绿色、灰绿色或棕褐色， 有纵棱线12条，由棱线分出多数横向平行的细脉纹。顶端平钝，基部有细长果梗。果皮 轻而脆，易裂为6瓣，果梗也分裂为6条。果皮内表面平滑而带光泽，有较密的横向脉纹。 果实分6室，每室种子多数，平叠整齐排列。种子扁平而薄，钝三角形或扇形，长6～10 mm，宽8～12mm，边缘有翅，淡棕色。气特异，味微苦。
【鉴别】
取本品粉末3g，加乙醇50ml，加热回流1小时，滤过，滤液蒸干，残渣加 乙醇5ml使溶解，作为供试品溶液。另取马兜铃对照药材3g，同法制成对照药材溶液。再 取马兜铃酸对照品，加乙醇制成每1ml含0.5mg的溶液，作为对照品溶液。照薄层色谱法 （附录Ⅵ B）试验，吸取上述三种溶液各5μl，分别点于同一硅胶Ｇ薄层板上，使成条状， 以甲苯-醋酸乙酯-水-甲酸(20:10:1:1)的上层溶液为展开剂，展开，取出，晾干，置紫外 光灯(365nm) 下检视。供试品色谱中，在与对照药材和对照品色谱相应的位置上，分别显 相同颜色的荧光条斑。
【炮制】
马兜铃 除去杂质，筛去灰屑，搓碎。 蜜马兜铃 取净马兜铃，照蜜炙法（附录Ⅱ D）炒至不粘手。
【性味与归经】
苦，微寒。归肺、大肠经。
【功能与主治】
清肺降气，止咳平喘，清肠消痔。用于肺热喘咳，痰中带血，肠 热痔血，痔疮肿痛。
【用法与用量】
3～9g。
【贮藏】
置干燥处。
