为五加科植物东北刺人参的根。
【植物形态】
东北刺人参 落叶灌木。根粗大，呈棒状。茎直立，有刺，节部特别多；树皮淡灰黄色。叶互生，掌状3～5裂，基部心形，边缘有锯齿和刺毛，叶脉亦有刺毛。花白绿色，集成许多小伞形花序，成总状排列在主轴上，花梗密布褐色毛。浆果状核果扁球形。花期8月。果期8～9月。 生于排水良好的腐殖质层深厚处，见于针叶林带的混交林中。分布吉林等地。
【采集】
春季采挖，晒于。
【化学成分】
根含生物碱、皂甙、挥发油、多糖。尚含强心甙。其他部分都含挥发油。
【药理作用】
参见"五加皮"条。
【功用主治】
《吉林中草药》："解热，镇咳。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，2～3钱。
