【性状】
本品呈类圆柱形，偶有分枝，长15～40cm，直径0.5～2.5cm。表面淡棕 黄色或浅棕色，有扭曲的纵皱纹及支根痕，多具孔穴状或盘状凹陷，习称“砂眼”，从 砂眼处折断可见棕色裂隙中有细砂散出。根头部略膨大，有密集的呈疣状突起的芽苞、 茎或根茎的残基，习称“珍珠盘”。质硬而脆，易折断，断面不平坦，较疏松，有裂隙， 皮部甚薄，木部有黄、白色相间的放射状纹理。气微，味甘。 栽培品有分枝，下部多扭曲，直径0.6～1.2cm。表面浅棕黄色或浅黄棕色，纵皱纹 细腻明显，细支根痕多呈点状凹陷。根头部有多数疣状突起。几无砂眼。折断面质地较 紧密，几无裂隙，略显粉性，木部放射状纹理不甚明显。味微甜。
【鉴别】
(1) 本品横切面：木栓细胞数列至10余列。皮层较窄。韧皮部筛管群明 显。形成层成环。木质部发达。射线宽至10余列细胞。薄壁细胞含草酸钙砂晶，以射线 细胞中为多见。 (2) 取本品粉末1g，加无水乙醇10ml，浸渍15分钟，滤过。取滤液2ml ，置紫外光 灯(365nm) 下观察，显亮蓝微紫色的荧光。 (3) 取本品粉末0.1g，加甲醇25ml，超声处理10分钟，滤过，滤液置50ml量瓶中,加 甲醇至刻度。照分光光度法（附录Ⅴ A）测定，在270nm±2nm波长处有最大吸收。
【检查】
酸不溶性灰分 不得过5.0％ （附录Ⅸ K）。
【炮制】
除去杂质，洗净，润透，切厚片，干燥。
【性味与归经】
甘，微寒。归肝、胃经。
【功能与主治】
清虚热，除疳热。用于阴虚发热，骨蒸劳热，小儿疳热。
【用法与用量】
3～9g 。
【贮藏】
置通风干燥处，防蛀。
