      利用穿越辐射效应制成的高能粒子探测器。穿越辐射探测器是由产生穿越辐射的辐射体、记录穿越辐射的计数器和其他电子学仪器共同组成。辐射体的厚度必须远大于形成区的大小。通常,使用原子序数小的材料作为辐射体,如锂箔、镀铝的聚酯薄膜与铍片等。穿越辐射光子产额较少,因此,需要使用多个薄片作为辐射体,这些薄片彼此靠近安放,形成多个界面。记录穿越辐射的计数器可以使用闪烁计数器、半导体计数器和多丝正比室等。穿越辐射探测器有两个缺点:①穿越辐射在辐射体中的自吸收;②入射带电粒子在X 射线探测器中穿过,会直接产生电离本底。也有人利用超导现象记录穿越辐射,在超导型穿越辐射探测器中,辐射体与辐射探测器合并为一体,因此,它能克服自吸收的困难,提高探测穿越辐射的灵敏度。
  
  穿越辐射探测器能测定单个高能带电粒子的洛伦兹因子γ(103)。因此,它同磁谱仪配合,能够分辨不同种类的高能粒子;对于已知质量的高能粒子,它能定出粒子的能量,并已正式使用它来分辨电子与强子。
  
  穿越辐射探测器是一种正在发展中的新型探测器。无论是穿越辐射探测器本身,还是它在高能物理实验中的应用,仍需要进行更多的研究。
