扩大炼焦煤源的炼焦方法之一。利用热废气将煤科进行干燥并预热到150～250℃再装炉炼焦。预热煤炼焦有下述显著效果：①提高焦炉生产能力，当煤料预热到200℃时，由于堆比重增大，装煤量增加8～10％，由于升温速度加快，结焦时间缩短25～30％，使焦炉生产能力可提高35～40％；②改善焦炭质量，由于快速加热扩大了煤料软化时的塑性温度区间，改善了胶质体的流动性和热稳定性，从而提高煤料的粘结性。可多用20％左右的气煤，而不会降低焦炭质量；③由于减少焦化厂外排废水量，预热煤是密封装炉，还可减轻环境污染。
