用于制造飞行器风挡、座舱罩、舷窗和观察窗。早期的飞机座舱罩用玻璃或赛璐珞板制作，30年代后期开始采用有机玻璃，即丙烯酸酯塑料。50年代后多采用韧性好、耐银纹和耐裂纹扩展的定向有机玻璃。对于飞行速度大于马赫数2.3的飞机,风挡和座舱罩要承受很大的气动加热，需要采用热变形温度更高、韧性更好、抗冲击能力更强的透明材料，如聚碳酸酯。普通的硅酸盐玻璃能耐热耐磨，但性脆易碎裂，所以飞机上大都采用经过物理或化学方法处理的钢化玻璃。把钢化玻璃、定向有机玻璃或聚碳酸酯塑料用柔软而具有粘性的胶片夹在中间，就制成多层复合透明玻璃材料，可防弹和防鸟撞，用作飞机的防鸟撞风挡玻璃。载人飞船、航天飞机和人造卫星的风挡和观察窗采用双层复合结构，即用耐热性很高的高硅氧玻璃或石英玻璃作热屏障层，用热稳定性好、强度高的化学强化铝硅酸盐玻璃作承力层。
