乌拉尔山脉(urals)是欧、亚两洲的分界线。
乌拉尔山脉北起北冰洋喀拉海的拜达拉茨湾，南至哈萨克草原地带，绵延2000多公里，介于东欧平原和西伯利亚平原之间。整条山脉自北至南分为极地、亚极地乌拉尔山地和北、中、南乌拉尔山五段。山势一般不高，平均海拔500－1200米；亚极地1894米的人民峰是乌拉尔山的最高峰。山脉的宽度为40-150公里。中段低平，是欧、亚两洲的重要通道。
乌拉尔山脉示意图乌拉尔山脉西坡较缓，东坡较陡。3米多高的洲际分界碑就立在东麓山坡前，距铁路不到10米。由于地理条件不同，乌拉尔山脉两边的矿产资源和动植物分布有着明显的区别。乌拉尔山脉是俄罗斯的一个矿藏宝库，它的东坡蕴藏着磁铁、铜、铝、铂、石棉等矿产；西坡则储有钾盐、石油和天然气。山脉东西坡气温不同，西坡的年平均降雨量比东坡多300毫米，分布着大片阔叶林和针叶林，林中生长着椴树、橡树、枫树、白桦等树种；东坡大多是落叶松，阔叶林很少见。
乌拉尔山脉还是伏尔加河、乌拉尔河同东坡鄂毕河流域的分水岭。有趣的是生活在东西两侧河流的鱼儿也不一样：西侧河流里的鲑鱼体闪红光，而东侧河流里的马克鲟鱼和折东鱼等却都呈银白色。
