性质:通常指生物化学中生物氧化时电子和质子的传递。如葡萄糖经酵解产生丙酮酸,丙酮酸再通过三羧酸循环进一步氧化,在这样一系列生化反应中也包括了脱氢和释出电子的反应,这些电子或电子和质子可通过由烟酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸(NAD)、黄素腺嘌呤二核苷酸(FAD)、辅酶Q、细胞色素系统等组成的电子传递链上的电子载体,把电子传递至分子氧,使氧还原,最终产生CO2和H2O。而电子在传递过程中释放的能量则用于合成ATP供机体对能量的需求。绿色植物中各类光合作用也得依赖于各种形式的电子传递系统才能完成。
