| 化工 chemical industry 化学工业（chemical industry）、化学工程（chemical engineering）、化学工艺（chemical techno-logy）都简称为化工。它们出现于不同历史时期，各有不同涵义，却又关系密切，相互渗透，具有连续性，并在其发展过程中被赋予新的内容。人类早期的生活更多地依赖于对天然物质的直接利用。渐渐地这些物质的固有性能满足不了人类的需求，于是产生了各种加工技术，有意识有目的地将天然物质转变为具有多种性能的新物质，并且逐步在工业生产的规模上付诸实现。广义地说，凡运用化学方法改变物质组成或结构、或合成新物质的，都属于化学生产技术，也就是化学工艺，所得的产品被称为化学品或化工产品。早期生产化学品的是手工作坊，后演变为工厂，并逐渐形成一个特定的生产部门，即化学工业。随着生产力的发展，有些生产部门，如冶金、炼油、造纸、制革等，已作为独立的生产部门从化学工业中划分出来。当大规模石油炼制工业和石油化工蓬勃发展之后，以化学、物理学、数学为基础并结合其他工程技术，研究化工生产过程的共同规律，解决生产规模放大和大型化中出现的诸多工程技术问题的学科  化学工程诞生并得到迅速地发展，从而将化学工业生产提高到一个新水平，从经验的或半经验的状态进入到理论和预测的新阶段。 |
