生油层、储集层和盖层呈有规律组合。生储盖组合是形成油气藏的必要条件之一。根据生、储、盖三者在时间上和空间上的相互关系,可将生储盖组合划分为5种类型（见图）。
①正常式生储盖组合。生油层位于组合下部，储集层位于中部，盖层位于上部（图 a）。
②侧变式生储盖组合。由于岩性、岩相在空间上的变化，生储盖在横向上发生变化而形成的（图 b）。
③侧生式生储盖组合。指生、储层并非同一层，储集层的油来自侧方的新或老的其他地层（图 c）。
④顶生式生储盖组合。生油层和盖层同属一层，而储集层位于其下的组合类型（图 d）。
⑤自生、自储、自盖式生储盖组合。如石灰岩中局部裂缝储油；泥岩中的砂岩透镜体储油，均属于这种类型的组合形式（图e）。
