紫晶 amethyst 深紫-淡紫色水晶。化学组成SiO2。三方晶系,晶体呈六方柱紫金山天文台状,柱面具横纹,有左形和右形,双晶很普遍。硬度 7。晶体内常含不规则或羽翅状气液两相包体。紫晶是水晶类宝石中价值较高的一种,可用来制做戒面或玉雕工艺品。颜色以深紫色为最佳,在人工照明下能发血红光彩。紫晶的颜色长期被认为是混入高价铁或锰、钛等色素元素所致;但当加热到240~ 270℃时,紫色便消退变为黄色;而经伦琴射线照射又可恢复原有紫色,故有人认为是内部原子排列状态的某种缺陷所引起的光学现象。人工合成紫晶,其颜色均一,不含气液包体;天然紫晶的颜色分布不均,呈不规则片状展布,并常含气液包体。紫晶主要形成于较低温度和压力条件下的热液矿脉中。主要产地有巴西、乌拉圭和俄罗斯,中国、印度、马达加斯加、美国、墨西哥等亦有产出。
