The ratio of SiO 2/ (Al 2O 3+Fe 2O 3) is 2 2～2 6 (type Ⅰ ) or 2 8～3 2 (type Ⅱ ) and the ratio of SiO 2/Al 2O 3 is 3 2～3 7 (type Ⅰ ) or 3 9～4 3 (type Ⅱ ) in Changjiang argillic phyllite, Hainan The contents of negative compositions are 0 52%～0 98% for MgO, 3 11～3 59% for (K 2O+Na 2O), 0 017%～0 036% for SO 3, 0 0029%～0 0039% for Cl - All the above parameters are confored the demands of quality.

On the basis of field survey of phyllitic slate along passenger dedicated line,through the experimental study,the engineering characteristics of the phyllitic slate which is used for filling subgrade,including the structural characteristics,physical and chemical properties,and hydrological properties are analyzed.

In view of the fact that large amounts of phyllitic slate are found along the Wu-Guang Railway Line,a lot of interior experiments and studies are made on the structural characteristics of the phyllitic slate used as subgrade filling materials,such as the grain composition and crushing characteristics.

In order to study the main influence factors of the CBR value and CBR characteristics of phyllitic slate,the CBR tests of the subgrade with materials of weathered soft-rock from the Wu-Guang Railroad Passenger Dedicated Line were done.
