又称显域植被。分布在“显域地境”、能充分反映一个地区气候特点的植被类型。
显域地境系指排水良好、土壤机械组成适中的平地或坡地。与地带性因素相适应，地带性植被在地理分布上表现出明显的三维空间规律性：因气温的差异，在湿润的大陆东岸，从赤道向极地依次出现热带雨林、亚热带常绿阔叶林、温带夏绿阔叶林、寒温带针叶林、寒带冻原和极地荒漠，称为植被分布的纬度地带性；从沿海到内陆，因水分条件的不同，使植被类型在中纬度地区也出现了森林→草原→荒漠的更替，称为植被相性（经度地带性）；从山麓到山顶，由于海拔的升高，出现大致与等高线平行并具有一定垂直幅度的植被带，其有规律的组合排列和顺序更迭，表现出垂直地带性。植被的垂直地带性与水平地带性（纬度地带性与经度地带性的统称）是通过基带相联系的。
