老窿洞位于银山铅锌矿矿区，历史悠久，源远流长。德兴银场，唐朝至宋朝，共断断续续开采达170多年，银山、九区和北山三矿区均发现古人开采的老窿洞，共约300处，并在老窿洞中多次发现古人开采时使用过的工具，以银山区为最，老窿洞开采深度达侵蚀基准面100米以下，达到相当的规模。
