补充资料：白马塔景区
位于敦煌市西郊敦煌故城南，今党河乡白马塔村内，距市中心2公里。相传前秦建元十八年（382年）9月，皇帝苻坚令骁骑将军吕光和陵江将军姜飞、率七万军马西伐龟兹，并嘱咐：“腾闻西国有鸠摩罗什，深解法相，善闲阴阳，为后学之宗，朕甚思之。贤哲者国之大宝，若克龟兹，即驰驿送什。”吕光等于384年攻破龟兹，并征服西域30余国后，请高僧鸠摩罗什东归传经。当行至敦煌时，鸠摩罗什夜梦他所乘白马托梦说，白马本是上界天骝龙驹，受佛主之命，特送他东行。现已进阳关大道，马将超脱生死之地，到葫芦将另有乘骑。次日醒来，果然白马已死去。当地佛教信徒遂葬白马于城下，修塔以纪念，取名“白马塔”。
现存白马塔建筑雄伟，塔身9层，高12米，直径7米，以土坯砌成，中有立柱，外涂以草泥、石灰。基层呈八角形；以砖包砌，每象面宽3米；第2—4层呈折角重叠形；第5层下有突出的乳钉，环绕一周，上为仰莲花瓣；第6层为覆钵形塔身；第7层为法相轮形；第8层为六角形的坡刹盘，每角挂风铎一只；第9层为连珠式塔尖，整体塔呈明代喇嘛塔风格。
