由于超导磁体环流在零电阻下无能耗运行，所以超导线圈中可持久地储存电磁能，且在短路情况下运行，称超导储能。它的优点在于：⑴一次储能可长期无损耗地保存，又可瞬时放出；⑵储存能量高，现已可达107J/m3以上；⑶用低压电源励磁即可；⑷装置体积小；⑸节省了常规所需的送变电设备和减少送变电损耗。
