纬平针组织是由连续的同一种单元线圈一个方向依次串套而成。纬平针组织的两面有不同的几何形态，正面线圈上的圈柱与线圈纵行配置成一定角度，纱线上的结头、棉结杂质容易被线圈所阻挡而停留在针织物的反面，因而正面一般比较光洁平整。反面的圈弧与线圈横列同向配置，对光线有较大的反射作用，因此较为阴暗。
