区内出露主要地层原白乃庙群的时代归属问题一直争议较大,主要原因是未找到古生物化石和合适的年龄依据。

熊耳山地区庙岭金矿床是大型构造蚀变岩型金矿,在该区发育有与金矿关系密切的地球化学异常,Au及相关元素的丰度由区域→矿区→构造岩→矿体呈几何级数递增,示矿元素主要有Au、Ag、Hg、As、Sb、V、S、Se、Te、W、B、Pb、Zn、Cu等,Hg、As、Sb、Ag等为中、低温远程指示元素。
