月海 mare 肉眼所见月面上的暗黑区域(见月面学)。实际上是广阔平原。共有22个,除3个位于月背,4个地跨正、背两面外,15个均在正面。正面上月海面积约占月球正面面积的50%左右,最大的风暴洋的面积约500万平方千米 。月海大多呈圆或椭圆形,四周为一些山脉封围,但也有月球背面的东海月盆,三层同心圆环的构造清晰可见几个海联成一片。与海类似但面积较小的称湖,计有梦湖、死湖、夏湖、秋湖与春湖。月海伸向月陆的部分称为湾或沼,但两者并无实质区别。
