华，使之与现代农业技术合理地结合，对加速发展中国农业生产，实现农业现代化，有十分重要的现实意义。传统农业(traditional agrieulture)运用经验积累的农业技术从事的农业生产的通称。是在原始农业的基础上发展起来的。其基本特征是:金属农具和木制农具代替了原始的石器农具，铁犁、铁锄、铁耙、褛车、风车、水车、石磨等得到广泛使用:畜力成为生产的主要动力;依靠经验积累的农业技术逐步形成，如选择农作物和畜禽的良种、积制和施用农家肥料，实行灌溉、，中耕锄草、防治病虫害、间作、套种，等等。 传统农业在欧洲是从古希腊、古罗马的奴隶制社会(约公元前5、6世纪)开始，直至20世纪初叶逐步转变为现代农业为止。中国传统农业延续的时间十分长久，大约在战国、秦汉之际已逐渐形成一套以精耕细作为特点的传统农业技术。在其发展过程中，生产工具和生产技术尽管有很大的改进和提高，但就其主要特征而言，没有根本性质的变化。中国传统农业技术的精华，反映在《祀胜之书》、《齐民要术》、《农桑辑要》和《农政全书》等著名农书中，对世界农业的发展有过积极的影响。重视继承和发扬中国传统农业技术的精
