壶瓶山国家级自然保护区
位于湖南省石门县境内，面积40847公顷，1982年建立省级自然保护区，1994年晋升为国家级，主要保护对象为亚热带森林生态系统和野生动植物种。
壶瓶山主峰海拔2098.7米，为湖南最高峰。保护区内相对高差达1847.7米，地形复杂，生态环境多样，生物资源丰富，植被垂直分带现象明显，森林植被为华中植物区系地带性的代表。由于该地在历史上未受到第四纪冰川的影响，保存了大量的古老孓遗植物及种群。区内共有高等植物206种，其中国家重点保护植物有34种，珙桐、水青树、野腊梅等特有原生型珍稀植物群落具极高的科研价值。陆栖脊椎动物有272种，昆虫有4145种，且新发现新属1个，新种31个，列为国家重点保护的野生动物有25种，特别是该区有华南虎及其繁殖种群的存在。保护区丰富和特殊的生物多样性资源使其具有重要的植物地理学意义及保护价值。
