线性系统理论中用几何学的语言和方法研究线性系统的一个理论分支。几何学语言和方法的特点是比较形象和直观，适宜于描述全局性的问题。线性系统几何理论产生于70年代初期，以W.M.旺纳姆为代表的研究者已形成为线性系统理论研究中的一个有影响的学派。线性系统几何理论主要采用状态空间法描述线性系统，基本思想是把能控性和能观测性概念通过不同形式的状态子空间的几何性质表示出来，并在几何空间的范围内加以分析。采用几何方法研究线性系统已得到一些有意义的结果。例如，引进(A，B)不变子空间和(A，B)能控子空间的概念可得出一些新的综合设计思想，如扰动解耦、输出稳定化、输出调节、结构稳定性等。将几何方法用于无交互作用的控制问题又可得到有实用意义的结构理论。几何理论的思想和方法也已推广到分散控制、广义线性系统等其他领域。
