      北宋词人。字泽民,号东堂。衢州江山(今属浙江)人。元祐中为饶州司法参军。曾受苏轼赏识,荐之于朝。绍圣间为衢州推官。元符元年(1098)改授武康县令。居舍名"尽心堂",改建易名为"东堂"。狱讼之暇,吟咏其间,因以为号。崇宁、大观间为祠部副郎。宣和初以言语得罪,贬真定通判。蔡京当政时,他曾献谀词以求进用。宣和后期出知秀州。终年60余岁。
  
  毛滂工诗能文,尤长于词。其词风大致属于婉约一路,而情韵特胜。其中最有代表性的是〔惜分飞〕:"泪湿阑干花著露,愁到眉峰碧聚。此恨平分取,更无言语空相觑。短雨残云无意绪,寂寞朝朝暮暮。今夜山深处,断魂分付潮回去。"据说,苏轼对这首词极其赞赏。南宋周煇评它"语尽而意不尽,意尽而情不尽,何酷似少游也"(《清波杂志》卷九)。传世的毛滂 200余首词中,除少部分献寄时相、郡守的讼谀之作外,其余无论写自然风物或男女恋情,多饶有余韵。但题材范围较窄。"其诗有风发泉涌之致,颇为豪放不羁。文亦大气盤礴,汪洋恣肆"(《四库全书总目》)。
  
  其诗文集《东堂集》已佚,《东堂词》单本流传。清代四库馆臣从《永乐大典》搜采裒辑《东堂集》10卷,包括诗4卷,文6卷。今见《东堂词》有吴讷《百家词》本、毛晋《宋六十名家词》本、朱孝臧《彊村丛书》本。
