【来源】
为莎草科植物牛毛毡的全草。
【植物形态】
牛毛毡 一年生草本。匍匐根茎极细。秆丛生，极细密，高2～12厘米。叶鳞片状，具鞘，鞘微红色，膜质，管状，高5～15毫米。小穗卵形，长3毫米，先端钝，淡紫色；花数朵；鳞片膜质，背部淡绿色，两侧紫色，基部的一片呈长圆形，先端钝，有脉3条，其余鳞片卵形，先端急尖；雄蕊3；柱头3。小坚果狭长圆形，顶端缢缩，长约1.8毫米。花、果期4～11月。 生于水畔、池塘边，分布几遍全国。
【采集】
8勺0月采收全草，晒干。
【性味】
《四川中药志》："性温，味辛，无毒。"
【功用主治】
治外感风寒，身痛，咳嗽，痰喘。 ①《分类草药性》："发散风寒。" ②《四川中药忘》；"发散风寒，除胸腹烦闷。治感冒咳嗽和痰多气喘。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，0.3～1两。
【选方】
治陈寒日久，一身作痛：牛毛毡、铁篱把根。用水(加少量干酒)煎服三次。(《四川中药志》)
