甲醇汽车是一种新型的低公害节能汽车，它是以酒精类的甲醇作为燃料的汽车。甲醇汽车的最高时速，马力等性能和普通汽车差不多，但排出废气中的铅，氮的氧化物也减少一半，并且基本不冒黑烟。燃料用的甲醇来源很广，可以从天燃气、劣质煤，油砂， 木屑等凡是能产生一氧化碳和氢气的物质中提炼出来。而且，甲醇生产有工艺简单，设备少，运输方便等特点。
