纳西东巴文中已有相当数量的假借字，并且使用频率很高，假借形式也比较灵活，有不少学者已经对此进行过研究，不过，到目前为止，还未曾有学者对此进行全面系统的研究。

| 东巴教 中国纳西族固有的宗教。其形成发展过程受到本教和藏传佛教的影响，东巴教以丁巴什罗（亦称东巴什罗、东巴萨勒）为祖师 。据称其携带99部经书和360名门徒来到今云南中甸县三坝白地村“灵洞”传教，白地村成为东巴教圣地。东巴教巫师称东巴，原为父子传承，后出现师徒传授。东巴依资历和熟习经文的程度分为不同等级。东巴教的经典为东巴经，系东巴用图画和象形文字写成，内容多属宗教神话、历史故事及占卜方法等，据初步整理计有经文1134种，分为30类。东巴教的主要祭典有祭天（夏历正月初四、五或初七、八），祭龙王、山神(夏历二月初八)，驱鬼(夏历十月)，求寿祭仪(夏历正月)等；丧葬仪式也是东巴教的一项重要仪式。在云南宁蒗彝族自治县永宁地区还流行一种达巴教（又称打巴教），也奉丁巴什罗为始祖，但无成文经典，祭典亦同东巴教有所不同。
