金鸡寺位于兰坪县金顶镇箐门乡石登村东面的灰龙山(又名龙凤山、金鸡山),离县城15千米,海拔2240米,黄金公路在金鸡寺下边通过,交通方便,自然景观和人文景观浑然一体。主要建筑有观音阁,弥勒殿,玉皇阁,三官殿,龙神祠等庙宇群，占地面积约1平方千米。所建阁殿，大部分依穴就居，精心雕砌。有的凿穴成阁，雕石为佛,有的钻岩为隧，劈峭成梯。庙宇群之间，石梯相通。 观音阁，始建于清嘉庆十五年(1810年),在悬崖石壁上开凿而成,地势险要,建筑精巧，有观音、文殊、普贤等塑像。观音阁里有大鼓、铜钟。弥勒殿,于同治年间续建在观音阁上方,殿堂依山凿石而成。弥勒殿右边,有个小石窟,叫地母祠,亦称接星台,从这里可以看到新县城和金顶全貌。
