聚四氟乙烯是由四氟乙烯单体采用悬浮法或分散法聚合而制得。分子量＝5．2×105-4．5×107。白色粉末，400目的占75％，无味、无美、无毒。相对密度2．1-2．3，折射率1．37，玻璃化温度327℃，热分解温度415℃。在400℃以上时有微量失重并分解出有毒气体。使用温度-250～260 ℃，在210 ℃使用可达10000h。优异的耐化学腐蚀性，耐任何强酸(包括王水)、强碱、油脂，不溶于任何溶剂，摩擦系数极低，耐磨性好，并有自润滑性。耐老化性优良。电性能优异，耐电弧性好。具有不粘性，几乎所有的粘性物质都不能粘附其表面，完全无燃烧性。有“塑料王”之称。
