制备方法：由2-溴-4-甲基苯胺重氮化、水解而得。将稀硫酸加到2-溴-4-甲基苯胺中，搅拌冷却，在5℃以下加入亚硝酸钠水溶液，温度保持在5℃以下，然后再加冷水、尿素和碎冰，得重氮盐溶液。再将无水硫酸钠、浓硫酸和水加热，在130-135℃分批加入重氮盐溶液，然后分批加入水进行蒸馏，所得馏出液用乙醚萃取，用10%碳酸氢钠溶液洗涤，再经无水硫酸钠干燥，过滤，滤液蒸去乙醚而得成品。另一种方法是由对甲苯酚在氯仿溶剂中直接溴化。
用途：有机合成中间体。
