【长期利润最大化】西方经济学家认为，在资本主义企业所有权和经营权分离的情况下，企业经理人员往往会把企业生存、发展和长期盈利性摆在短期利润最大化的前面，特别是寡头袭断企业的视野会扩展到短期以外，为了不致把新企业引进这个行业，它们多半会放弃一些近期的利润，因而提出了更为适宜的目标函数，即长期利润最大化。 长期利润最大化，精确地说，是企业要使它的未来利润流量的现值最大化。未来利润必须按适当的贴现率折为现值，才能就不同时期的利润进行对比。因此，要求企业考虑每个时期的价格水平，为每个时期形成一个不同价格水平上的预期需求量。这又要求把在某些价格水平上可能被新来企业夺走的销量，把预期在未来时期影响企业产销量的各种因素，如人口、国民收人、消费者爱好、竞争品价格等等考虑在内。在成本方面，企业要作出对投人要素相对价格和技术状况的变化预测，以便估计每个时期不同的产量水平上的边际生产成本。很明显，在实际上，上述过程的计算是极其困难的。即使可能进行预计，获取所需各项信息的费用，可能已远远超过这种预计所能带来的额外收益，因而企业不应同意进行。更为可能的做法是，企业会使用替长期利润最大化的目标函数，即推行一种差不多可以达到相同效果、但执行起来远为简便的经济的方针，如销售量最大化模式、增长率最大化模式以及寻求满意化等。
