元素符号Np，原子序数93，系锕系金属，银白色放射性金属。237Np是镎的最常见的放射性同位素，可用中子照射铀制得。在从辐照后的燃料元件中回收铀和分离钚时，镎作为副产品回收。常用的方法为溶剂萃取法或离子交换法,或把二者结合起来。用钙还原 NpF3或NpF4，以碘作助热剂，在氩气氛中于600～750℃进行反应，可制得金属镎。残渣中的镎可用离子交换法再回收。用锂或钡的蒸气于1200℃还原NpF3也可以制得镎。
