冷热两个表面之间用抽成高真空的方法而达到绝热的效果。当气体的平均自由程`l\lt\ltd`(两表面之间距离)时,气体的热导率$\lambda=\frac{1}{3}\rhobb{bar{v}}lc_v$,式中$bb{bar{v}}$为气体的热运动平均速度,ρ是气体密度,cv是定容比热,其中ρ∝p,$l\propto\frac{1}{p}$,所以λ与气体压强无关。当$l\gt\gtd$时,气体分子在冷热表面之间直接飞行而进行热量的传递,其传热与气体压强成正比,所以高真空绝热,其真空度要好于10-5托才有明显的效果。
