性质：气体中吸附质的溶解热较高，从自由状态的分子变成溶解状态的分子时要放出较多的热量，因需要较高的能量才能把吸附质分子吸附到吸附剂表面上，因而吸附剂表面的浓度小于气体中吸附质的浓度，产生负吸附的现象。对于液气界面上的吸附根据吉布斯吸附公式可知，当表面张力随溶液浓度升高而增加时表面吸附量为负值，如无机盐在水面上的吸附。
