On basis of analysis of geological characteristics of compressional basins in the world,the concept and theory of piedmont and piedmont hydrocarbon accumulation was proposed.

The paper takes the western region of northern Songliao Basin as an example, prospects and evaluates oil gas concentration areas(zones) of both lithology and strata by using the techniques and methods of conventional geochemical exploration, radioactive thermoluminescence and Rn measuring etc.

In order to research the relationship between reservoir heterogeneity and accumulation of oil and gas to guide the next exploration and development of the field, reservoir heterogeneity was studied and physical modeling experimentation methods were used to research the influence of heterogeneity on the accumulation of oil and gas.
