| 薯蓣科 Dioscoreaceae 单子叶植物纲百合亚纲的一科。多年生草质缠绕藤本地下茎的形状大小不一，有根茎或块茎。单叶或掌状复叶，互生，有时中部以上对生，基出脉3～9条，侧脉网状，不少种类叶腋常有大小形状不一的珠芽。花单性，雌雄异株，很少同株；雄花有雄蕊3～6枚，有时3枚发育，3枚退化成花丝状；雌花雌蕊发育，雄蕊退化，3～6或无。蒴果有翅，3棱形，种翅膜质 。共10属650种，广布全球热带至温带，以热带美洲和非洲种类较多，亚洲次之。中国仅薯蓣属1属约60种，少数分布长江以北，其余种类分布在长江以南各省区。
