CH3OCH3 又称甲醚,无色、无毒，具有令人愉快气味的易燃气体，沸点－23.6℃。主要由合成甲醇生产中的副产获得。单独小规模生产时，可采用甲醇催化脱水方法。有液相法和气相法两种：液相法是加热硫酸与甲醇混合物；气相法是将甲醇蒸气通过氧化铝催化剂（也可用ZSM－5型分子筛作为催化剂）。二甲醚主要作为甲基化剂和生产二甲基苯胺、硫酸二甲酯等的原料，也可用于制取甲醛和合成汽油。
