| 永兴岛 中国南海诸岛中最大的岛屿。东西长约1950米，南北宽约1350米。面积1.85平方千米。是西沙群岛、中沙群岛和南沙群岛的人民政府所在地。是由白色珊瑚贝壳沙堆积在礁平台上而形成的。地势平坦，平均高约5米，岛中为干涸潟湖。终年皆夏，年均温26.4℃，最冷月均温22.8℃，极端最低温15.3℃。年降水量1509.8毫米，风力大，蒸发快。植物种类多，野生的有148种，占西沙群岛总数的89％，尤以麻风桐著名。还盛产椰子、木瓜、香蕉等水果、20多种蔬菜、杂粮。该岛处西沙群岛中央，位置优越，四周有良好锚地，风浪小，是兴建码头的良好地点，已修建300米可停泊3000吨级船只的码头。
