过滤操作中用以减少滤饼阻力或过滤介质阻力的辅助物料。通常是一些质地坚硬的粉状或纤维状固体。助滤剂只用于以获得清净滤液为目的的过滤操作。过滤形成的滤饼有两类:一类具有相当的刚性,结构不随操作压力的增大而改变,称不可压缩滤饼;另一类滤饼的结构随操作压力增大而改变,致使滤饼中的滤液流动通道缩小,滤液的流动阻力急剧增大,称可压缩滤饼。对于可压缩滤饼,添加助滤剂能够增强其刚性,可防止过滤阻力增加。在过滤含有粘性细颗粒的悬浮液时,往往形成致密的滤饼层,添加助滤剂可改变滤饼结构,减少滤饼阻力。助滤剂的使用方法:一种是将助滤剂按一定比例与待滤的悬浮液混合,然后一起过滤;另一种是制备只含助滤剂的悬浮液,先行过滤,在过滤介质上形成预涂层,然后再过滤滤浆。助滤剂预涂层能承受一定压力而不变形,又可防止滤布因堵塞而增加阻力。
常用的助滤剂有硅藻土、纸粕、活性炭、金属屑和炉渣等。硅藻土具有很大的比表面积,能吸附胶体物质,并形成空隙率很高的滤饼,是应用最广泛的助滤剂。纸粕多用作预涂层,可防止滤布的早期堵塞。
