中国大型水库之一,浙江省最大人工湖。由拦蓄钱塘江上游主源新安江而成。位于浙西淳安、建德两县境内。湖呈东西向延伸,长约150公里,?碚坏龋羁泶?10公里。环湖锦峰拥簇,青翠葱郁,湖水晶莹,岛屿密集,大小岛屿1078个,湖因而得名。湖区素以山青、水秀、洞奇、石怪而著名,游点多,景色迷人,是中国著名风景名胜区杭州-黄山旅游线上的重要旅游区。目前可供游览的风景点有排岭、龙山、羡山、姥山、密山、龙羊山、方腊洞和华东独有的赋溪石林等地。风景区还建有千岛湖国家森林公园。
