【来源】
为木棉科植物木棉的树皮。植物形态详"木棉花"条。
【药材】
干燥树皮为条片状，或卷筒状，厚约0.3～0.7厘米，长约5～6厘米，宽约2～3厘米，外表灰黄棕色或红棕色，粗糙，密生椭圆形钉刺，纵向延长，钉上有层纹，不易剥落，有时刺尖被磨去。内表面红棕色，有顺纹。质韧不易折断，断面纤维状.有微弱香气，味淡。 产广东、广西等地。
【性味】
辛，平。 ①《生草药性备要》："性平。" ②《本草求原》："涩辛，平。" ③广州部队《常用中草药手册》："甘，凉。"
【功用主治】
清热利湿，活血，消肿。治慢性胃炎，胃溃疡，泄泻，痢疾，腰脚不遂，腿膝疼痛，疮肿，跌打损伤。 ①《生草药性备要》："消疮肿，止痛，敷跌打，消红肿。又治木棉疔，煲肉食。" ②《本草求原》："治跌打，火疮，活血。" ③《岭南采药录》："治腰脚不遂，血脉顽痹，腿膝疼痛，赤白泻痢。" ④《南宁市药物志》："去湿热。治血崩，金创。" ⑤广州部队《常用中草药手册》："清热利湿。治慢性胃炎，胃溃疡，产后浮肿。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，0.5～1两；或研末。外用：煎水洗。
【选方】
治阴囊奇痒：木棉皮煎汤洗之。(《贵州中医验方》)
