BCS理论给出超导态和正常态两相超声衰减系数αs和αn之比为:

αs/αn=2[1 exp(Δ(T)/kBT)]-1

由此实验上可测量能隙Δ,并对铅、铝、锡等测出的Δ值与其他方法测得的结果基本相符,比值与温度T变化的实验曲线也与理论公式相符,也说明BCS理论对这些超导材料是正确的。
