By means of homopolymerization using BPO as the initiator at 60℃ in 1, 4-dioxane, four side chain liquid crystalline polymers having different architectures are synthesized.

The synthetic methods of side chain liquid crystal polymer(SCLCP) were described;recent advances in the development of new SCLCP,the physical and chemical characters as well as their functions were particularly investigated.

There are many advantages such as the flexibility with molecular design, the convenience in synthesis and self-assembly and the dynamic characteristics in the hydrogen-bonded side-chain supramolecular liquid crystalline polymer systems.
