[定期储蓄】“活期储蓄”的对称。事先约定存储时间，存人后期满才可以支取的一种储蓄存款。定期储蓄是银行对存户签发定期存单，到期凭存单支取本息。它包括整存整取、零存整取、整存零取和存本付息等方式。它的特点是金额较大，存期较长，利率较高，存款比较稳定，对于积累建设资金，促进社会主义经济的发展具有重大作用。它适合于吸收生活节余款和积少成多的大额用款。定期储蓄一般是约定期满才能支取，但我国金融机构为了照顾群众的实际困难，满足临时性急需，在储户提供必要的证明文件后，可以提前支取，但按活期利率计算利息。
