侧柏 Platycladus orientalis;oriental arborvitae 柏科侧柏属常绿乔木。又称柏树、扁柏、香柏。在中国分布极广,北起内蒙古、吉林,南至广东及广西北部;人工栽培范围几遍全国。是优良的园林绿化树种。木质软硬适中,细致,有香气,耐腐力强,多用于建筑、家具、细木工等;种子、根、叶和树皮可入药;用种子榨油,供制皂、食用或药用。树高可达20米。树皮红褐色,纵裂。小枝扁平。叶鳞片状,小形。雌、雄同株,球花单生枝顶。球果近卵形。种子长卵形,无翅(见图)。侧柏喜光,但幼苗、幼树有一定耐荫能力。较耐寒,抗风力较差。耐干旱,喜湿润,但不耐水淹。耐贫瘠,可在微酸性至微碱性土壤上生长。生长缓慢。寿命极长。播种前种子可用温水处理。育苗方式多用床式或大田式。一般春季播种,播后约10天幼苗出土。主要造林地多选海拔1500米以下的山地阳坡、半阳坡,以及轻盐碱地和砂地。一般整地后植苗造林,有条件的地方也可直播。主要虫害有侧柏毒蛾、双条杉天牛、松梢小卷蛾。
