    无色斜方晶系颗粒状或致密块状物。含杂质后呈粉红色。味苦。具有脂肪光泽。性脆。密度1.6g/cm3。硬度2-3。溶于水,空气中吸湿溯解。加热到110-120℃分解为氯化镁四水物和氯化钾。加热到176℃完全脱水,同时有少量水解现象。加热到750-800℃时,脱水熔融,沉淀出氧化镁。
    应用  主要用作提炼金属镁的精炼剂,生产铝镁合金的保护剂。也用作铝镁合金的焊接剂,金属的助熔剂,生产钾盐和镁盐的原料。还用于制造肥料和盐酸等。
