    单子叶植物纲鸭跖草亚纲的一科。多年生沼生草本,有伸长的根状茎,上部出水。叶直立,长线形,常基出,花单性,成狭长的肉穗花序,雄花集生上方,雌花集生下方,花被成刚毛,雄花有2~5雄蕊,雌花具1雌蕊,子房由1心皮所成,1室,有1下垂胚珠。小坚果,被丝状毛或鳞片,以利散布。仅香蒲属1属约15种,分布于温带和热带,中国约有10种,大部分产于北方沼泽地。香蒲叶宽可达2厘米,东方香蒲叶宽6~10毫米,两种的雄花穗和雌花穗均紧相连接。狭穗香蒲叶宽7~12毫米,有时可15~20毫米;水烛叶宽5~8毫米,雄花穗和雌花穗间均有一段间隔。香蒲等初生的根茎称蒲蒻,可食用,花粉称蒲黄,果穗称果棒,均有消炎止血、抑菌退肿功用;叶可织席、扇、袋及坐垫等。该科与黑三棱科接近,A.克朗奎斯特把它从露兜树目分离出来  ,同黑三棱科合组成香蒲目。
