性质:白色粉末。熔点286℃,沸点384-400℃,相对密度1.680(20/4℃),在室温下溶于二甲基甲酰胺(DMF)、二甲基亚砜,γ-丁内酯、N-甲基吡咯烷酮、丙酮、甲基乙基甲酮、甲基异丁基甲酮、乙酸乙酯,不溶于氯仿、乙醚、正己烷、苯。暴露在湿空气中水解变成均苯四甲酸。

制备方法:可以有多种制法。采用的原料可以是二甲苯、三甲苯、四甲苯或蒽。氧化的方法有液相法和气相法等。1.均四甲苯气相氧化 此法特点是工艺简单,可省去脱水成酐工序,除空气外不用其他氧化剂(如硝酸、高锰酸、铬酸等),也不需液相所必需的催化剂分离工序,并可连续生产,易于实现自动化操作,是国外发展的主要方法。所用的原料也可以从1,2,4-三甲苯出发,在催化剂存在下,与丙烯烷基化生成1,2,4-三甲基-5-丙基苯,再以气相空气催化氧化得到均苯四甲酸二酐。2.由二甲苯(对二甲苯或间二甲苯)经氯甲基化、氧化、环化而得。工业品均苯四甲酸二酐为白色至淡黄绿色结晶,一级品熔点284-287℃,二级品熔点283.5-287℃。由1,2,4-三甲苯用氧化法生产时,每吨产品消耗1,2,4-三甲苯3000kg、丙烯1200kg。

用途:用于制造聚酰亚胺树脂,后者用作耐高温电气绝缘漆的原料。亦用以制取环氧树脂固化剂和增塑剂、脲醛树脂稳定剂、酞菁蓝染料、缓蚀剂、瞬间粘结剂、电子摄影调色剂等。
